Application and Admission Process

River Rock School is a Vermont State recognized K-8 independent school. The application process can be initiated at any time, and students are admitted on a rolling basis.

To request literature and an application, you may call or e-mail us: (802) 223-4700 riverrockschool@comcast.net. Please leave your name, address, and telephone number.

The Application Process is unique to each family, but generally includes the following:

Parent Visit

An initial parent-teacher conversation gives the prospective student痴 parent(s) the opportunity to learn about RRS philosophy, curriculum, and community, and the River Rock teachers learn about the prospective student and family.

Open Houses

Twice yearly Open Houses often take the place of or supplement a Parent Visit. At Open Houses teachers give an overview of the River Rock approach to education and answer questions from prospective families. Current River Rock parents attend, and are available to talk with prospective families. Please see News and Events for the next scheduled Open House.

Student Visit

Prospective Students visit River Rock for a half-day or full day, usually without an accompanying parent. This allows the child to experience what it痴 like to be a part of the RR community and our approach to learning, and teachers can observe and begin to know the child.

Submission of Materials

Parents complete the Application Form, with a $25 application fee, and submit these to the school.

Family/Teacher Meeting

A follow up meeting provides the opportunity for further conversation and exploration, if needed, and is usually when teachers express to parents that they believe River Rock is or is not a good match for the prospective student. At this time, when appropriate, Tuition and Scholarship information are discussed, Scholarship Applications are provided, if needed, and contracts are provided.

Enrollment

Students most often enroll in the fall, though it is not unusual for students to enroll mid-year or at other times. Because we are a strong community with a familial nature, new students feel welcomed and readily become part of the school community.

River Rock School welcomes students of any race, gender, sexual orientation, color, creed, religion, class, national or ethnic origin, and does not discriminate on the basis of any of these in the administration of any of its programs.
